Our Mission
Our mission is to empower and uplift Black youth by addressing educational disparities, advocating for equitable resources, and fostering environments where all children can thrive. We work closely with educators, families, ad community leaders to create innovative strategies that support academic achievement, youth developments, and a bright future for Durham's next generation.
Our Vision
As the Chair for the Education and Youth Committee, our vision is to foster an equitable an empowering educational environment where all youth, particularly Black students in Durham, NC, have the opportunities, resources, and support they need to excel academically and thrive in their communities. We aim to bridge disparities in educational outcomes, ensure access to quality learning experiences, and equip students with the skills and confidence to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
We are committed to advocating for inclusive policies that uplift the voices of students and families, promoting cultural competency, and addressing systemic inequities within the education system. By fostering strong community partnerships we strive to create a future where every student, regardless of race or socioeconomic background, has the tools and support to achieve their highest potential.
Through advocacy, community collaboration, an a shared commitment to justice, we envision a Durham where Black youth are supported and celebrated for their unique gifts, preparing them to lead with resilience, pride, and purpose.
As the Vice Chair of the Education and Youth Committee, my vision is to create an inclusive, nurturing, and transformative educational environment where every Black child is empowered to reach their fullest potential. I envision a Durham where our youth are not only academically prepared but also spiritually grounded, equipped with the tools they need to excel in life, contribute to their communities, and lead with integrity.
We are committed to ensuring that Black children and youth receive the support, mentorship, and resources necessary for success in a world that often overlooks their potential. Through advocacy and collaboration with educators, parents, and community leaders, we will continue to dismantle barriers, promote educational equity, and create opportunities that celebrate the uniqueness of every Black students.
Together, we will build a future where Black youth in Durham are confident in their abilities, proud of their heritage, and ready to make a lasting impact in their communities and the world.

The 1935 Scholarship Fund is an educational initiative of the Youth and Education Committee of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People (DCABP).
