Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People
Religious and Human Affairs
The Religious and Human Affairs Committee of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People serves as a vital bridge between faith communities, civic leaders, and the broader public. Its purpose is to uplift, inform, and mobilize residents around the social, economic, and moral issues that shape the quality of life for Black people in Durham. Grounded in the rich tradition of faith-based advocacy, the committee works to strengthen community bonds, promote justice and equity, and ensure that the spiritual and human needs of our residents remain central to public discourse and decision-making.
Through partnerships with congregations, community organizations, and service providers, the committee amplifies the voices of those most impacted by systemic barriers and works to connect individuals and families with resources that support their well-being. Its impact is seen in the convening of critical conversations, the elevation of community concerns before policymakers, and the cultivation of shared solutions rooted in compassion and collective responsibility.
Ultimately, the Religious and Human Affairs Committee advances the mission of the DCABP by championing dignity, strengthening community resilience, and fostering a unified commitment to justice for all who call Durham home.
