On Sunday, 1/24/21, we held our Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers! This was the first time it was held virtually in the history of the organization. The event was well attended.
Outgoing Chair Omar S. Beasley gave opening remarks to begin the meeting hosted by Angelique Stallings, who also was sworn in as Civic Committee Chair. Recording artist and actress Yolanda Rabun gave her moving rendition of "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing." The Chair Emeritus thanked his Executive Team for their support and offered a charge for the incoming Chair.
Several elected officials offered congratulations and tributes including US Congressmen G.K. Butterfield and David Price, and newly appointed National Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison. We also gave special recognition for their continuous support of the DCABP over many years.
2020 was a difficult year. We lost several great leaders and trailblazers in our community which made it even tougher. We honored them with a moving tribute video with each individual's image and milestones featured.
Former judge and Durhamite Elaine O'Neal also announced her bid to run for Mayor of Durham. It seems everyone at the meeting was delighted with this news!
Several sub-committee chairs gave a brief overview on their goals for the new term.
The Reverend and City Councilman Mark-Anthony Middleton opened and closed us out with the beautiful prayers needed for this organization and the world as he always so eloquently does.
We are excited for this 86th year of being the voice of Durham's Black community and living out the vision set forth by our founders in 1935. We thank and salute Omar S Beasley for his leadership the last 5 years and welcome our new chairman, Antonio Jones, as well as all newly elected officers!
