DCABP ANNOUNCES THE FOLLOWING ENDORSEMENTS FOR THE NOVEMBER 3 GENERAL

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People (DCABP) is pleased to announce additional candidate endorsements for the November 3, 2026 General Election. Following its candidate review and endorsement process, DCABP announces its support for the following candidates:

• Judge Toby Hampson — North Carolina Court of Appeals

• Judge John S. Arrowood — North Carolina Court of Appeals

• Judge Christine Walczyk — North Carolina Court of Appeals

• Attorney Christy Hamilton Malott — North Carolina District Court Judge, Judicial District 16

• District Attorney Satana Deberry — Durham County District Attorney

• David Harris — Durham Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor

Judge Toby Hampson brings extensive appellate judicial experience to his service on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. His legal career has included service as a Court of Appeals judge as well as significant appellate practice, providing him with substantial experience addressing complex questions of North Carolina law.

Judge John S. Arrowood brings decades of legal and judicial experience and a longstanding record of public service to the North Carolina Court of Appeals. His experience on the appellate bench and within North Carolina's legal community provides an established foundation for addressing matters affecting individuals, families, communities, and institutions across the state.

Judge Christine Walczyk brings extensive judicial experience and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism and the administration of justice. Her experience on the District Court bench has prepared her to thoughtfully review complex legal matters and serve the people of North Carolina on the Court of Appeals.

Judge Christy Hamilton Malott offers significant legal experience representing and serving children, families, and Durham County residents. Her knowledge of family law and the challenges facing court-involved families will provide valuable perspective to the Durham County District Court bench.

District Attorney Satana Deberry, who is unopposed in the general election, has served as Durham County's chief prosecutor and has emphasized community-centered, equitable, data-informed, and transparent approaches to public safety. DCABP recognizes the importance of experienced leadership, accountability, fairness, and continued engagement between the District Attorney's Office and the Durham community.

David Harris is seeking reelection to the nonpartisan Durham Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. His continued service reflects a commitment to protecting Durham's natural resources, strengthening environmental stewardship, supporting local agriculture, and promoting conservation education for future generations.

DCABP reminds voters that judicial and local offices are critically important. These officials help administer justice, promote public safety, preserve natural resources, and influence the overall well-being of the community. Every race matters, and every eligible voter is encouraged to become informed and exercise the right to vote.

The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People, established in 1935, has advocated for the political, educational, economic, civic, and social advancement of Durham's Black community for more than nine decades. Through voter education, candidate engagement, public advocacy, and community service, the organization remains committed to informed civic participation, responsive government, and accountable leadership.
