Durham, NC – The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People (DCABP), a 90-year-old organization devoted to advancing equity, empowerment, and civic engagement in Durham’s Black community, today released its official endorsements for the 2025 municipal elections.
These endorsements reflect DCABP’s commitment to elevating candidates who demonstrate a deep understanding of the needs of Durham’s Black community and who are poised to champion social, economic, and racial justice policies in local government.
Endorsed Candidates
Mayoral Race: Leonardo Williams - Incumbent, advocates to move his current agenda forward with the following top three priorities: Public Safety with Compassion and a Continuum of Care, 2) Housing and Homelessness – Dignity Begins at Home, and 3) Economic Opportunity Rooted in Community.
City Council – Ward 1: DeDreana Freeman - Incumbent, her strong advocacy is for: 1) An Equitable Durham, 2) Public Safety, and 3) Economic Justice and Racial Justice.
City Council – Ward 2: Mark-Anthony Middleton - Incumbent, is a relentless advocate in advancing gun violence, economic stability, and an adequate and affordable housing stock as his top three priorities for the City of Durham.
City Council – Ward 3: Diana Medoff, a responsive an informed newcomer, cites her top three priorities are more housing, more jobs, and more safety.

DCABP’s Political Action Committee bases its endorsement decisions on comprehensive criteria including:
Demonstrated leadership and responsiveness to Black Durham.
Alignment with DCABP’s values of empowerment, equity, and community-responsive policymaking.

A track record of inclusive governance and coalition-building.
