The mayor highlighted key priorities shaping the city’s trajectory, emphasizing inclusive growth, economic development, and strengthened collaboration between public, private, and community stakeholders. The address reinforced a theme of moving Durham forward “intentionally, inclusively, and together,” with a focus on ensuring that growth benefits long-time residents as well as newcomers.

A major highlight of the evening was a fireside conversation with Mayor Brandon Scott, which broadened the discussion beyond Durham to shared challenges facing cities nationwide—particularly public safety, leadership, and community trust. The dialogue underscored the importance of innovative approaches to violence prevention and cross-city learning, positioning Durham within a broader network of cities working toward equitable and sustainable urban futures.
