Community Leaders Inspire Transformational Leadership

As part of an ongoing effort to sharpen focus and enhance the effectiveness of the Durham Committee, Chair Floyd McKissick, Jr. hosted a leadership breakfast and retreat on the morning of Saturday, May 3. Held at St. Joseph A.M.E. Church on Fayetteville Street, the retreat was attended by subcommittee chairs, vice chairs, and general members.

Participants widely agreed that the retreat was successful in advancing the shared goal of transformational leadership by fostering the exchange of ideas and information, strengthening trust and relationships, improving coordination, and key characteristics of transformational leaders.

Among the retreat’s highlights were a presentation by Frederick Ravin, Chair of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People, Inc., outlining the organization's recent activities, and an engaging team-building exercise led by Dr. Monique Holsey-Hyman, Chair of the Education Committee.

While the retreat represented a strong step forward, there was a clear consensus that more work remains to be done both within the organization and across the broader community.
